A 25-member development council for the cement industries
Government has established a 25-member development council for the cement industries, which includes Dalmia Bharat Group CMD, Puneet Dalmia and UltraTech Cement MD, KC Jhanwar.
The council has been established to give suggestions on eliminating waste, increasing production, improving quality, lowering costs, and promoting product standardisation.
Other functions of the council, according to an order, include recommending measures to ensure full utilisation of installed capacity and to improve the working of the industry, particularly of the less efficient units, boosting or undertaking scientific and industrial research.
The council is headed by Dalmia. Other members of the board include HM Bangur the Managing Director of Shree Cement Ltd, Rakesh Singh the Executive President of India Cements, Pracheta Majumdar the Chief Executive Officer of Birla Corporation Limited, Madhavkrishna Singhania the Deputy Managing Director of J K Cement and Nilesh Narwekar the CEO of JSW Cement.
The council will also work to standardise accounting and costing methods and practises, as well as encourage the adoption of labour productivity-boosting measures such as safer and better working conditions.
According to the order of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, the central government established a Development Council for Cement Industry (DCCI) and appointed members to the council for a two-year term.
Moreover, the responsibilities of the council also include promoting or conducting research into materials and equipment, as well as production methods, management, and labour utilisation, as well as the discovery and development of new materials, equipment, and methods.
