Cement demand may go down by 50 per cent this year.

Bansal Cement Traders,
Proprietor Puneet Bansal.
We have been in the cement dealing business from the last seven to eight years. We supply Shree Ultra, Lafarge, Bangur Cement and the RockStrong brands. Our dealership includes clients all across the Delhi region. Of these, the Shree Ultra brand is very popular in the northern region, because customers are happy with the rust-proof protection offered by the material. The year 2013 was not that good when we consider sale volumes.

Margins too were very low, last year. At one point, we felt as if the business was completely stuck with no sales happening at all. Although Delhi has a new government, we are not expecting reforms overnight. Decisions about new infrastructure development are still under the central government´s control. I don´t think the market will pick up till elections.

However, we expect 2014 to be even more difficult. Cement prices may drop by 30 to 40 per cent. In fact, cement demand may go down by 50 per cent in the coming year.
