Coal block plan on backburner!

Months after the Government announced plans of getting a coal block allocated to set up a pithead plant in another state that would supply power to the national capital, Delhi Government has admitted that it was unlikely the project would follow through. Saying they were reconsidering the plan, the Government said the focus now is on getting cheaper power for Delhi.

Power minister Satyendar Jain said that as Delhi has surplus power, an additional thermal plant would not be required. "Right now our focus is to ensure that the costly PPAs assigned to discoms are surrendered so they can start sourcing cheaper power," he said.

The Minister said that it is unlikely that the capital would require more power, so there was no need for another thermal power station.
