Process control and optimisation is key
Cement plays an important role in the economic development of a country. Indian cement industry is the second largest cement producer in the world. At present, the installed capacity of cement in India is 500 million tonne per annum (MTPA) with production of 298 MTPA. With the increase in growth of infrastructure, the cement production in India is expected to be 500 million tonne (MT) by the year 2020 and 800 MT by 2030.
Hence, there is a pressing need for the industry to give a boost to its energy and production processes in order to meet the growing demand, especially in terms of sustainability, operational efficiency, value chain efficiency and complete lifecycle services.
The challenge in our country today is that there is large variation in energy intensities of different units, ranging from the best in the world to extremely inefficient units. Therefore, there is a lot of room to improve energy intensity with right deployment of technologies and best in class practices. With the adoption of massive modernisation and state-of-the-art technology, Indian cement plants can become energy-efficient and environment-friendly, as compared to the best in the world in all respects, whether it is size of the kiln, technology, energy consumption or environment-friendliness.
Schneider Electric products and solutions provide scalable process automation systems that integrate power and control to meet production, operational, and quality objectives of a cement plant. The EcoStruxure™¢ for cement process control and optimisation controls and supervise systems, combine energy and process data into a single platform thereby helping the manufacturers to manage their cement process in smarter, easier and energy efficient manner.
